Making Strategies Work Through People

TOSCA Consulting Group

A good business strategy is only as good as its execution.

But few companies are equally adept at the development of winning strategies and their effective implementation.

TOSCA was established in 2001 and specialises in developing business strategy AND implementing it through people.

What we do

TOSCA is a small, UK based international consultancy with particular interest in the implications of the changing nature of the world of work on company strategy. We help organisations in all sectors to develop sound strategy, build internal commitment to driving it forward and put in place all the necessary processes to ensure effective implementation. Together with a range of well known client companies TOSCA has developed a model of consortium working to explore and share insights catalysed by expert interventions and research findings.

TOSCA delivers improved results for its clients by ensuring their business strategy is well founded, based on a solid understanding of the market, the customer, the competition and the company's own assets and capabilities. Our approach in developing strategy or challenging an existing one begins with rigorous data collection and analysis. For example:
  • defining, quantifying and segmenting the markets
  • analysing the competition
  • identifying current and emerging customer needs
  • establishing the assets and capabilities of the organisation
  • determining and evaluating the relative market opportunities
Our approach to building commitment majors on communication and surfacing concerns so that they can be addressed. Typically this involves a combination of interviews, one-on-one or in small groups, and facilitated workshops, all designed to surface the buried issues which otherwise block effective strategy implementation.

Our approach to implementation is rigorous and very focused.
  • who needs to do what?
  • by when?
  • what resources do they need to do it?
  • what are their individual goals and targets?
  • how many are held accountable?
Many organisations fall down on a number of these issues. In order to make sure the strategy is more than just words on a page we ensure everyone is clear about what is expected of them.

As strategy is not a one-off activity but a continuum, we also offer a means of checking progress, a "health check" on implementation, designed to measure progress, identify and address obstacles, modify and finetune the plans and ensure the programme stays on track.
