Frequently Asked Questions
How is TOSCA different from other strategy consultancies?
In several ways: Most of our competitors either specialise
in developing strategy or in implementing it - often called
'change management'. We manage the whole continuum - based on
our deeply held conviction that any strategy is only as good
as its execution. All TOSCA people have extensive seniot line
management experience so they know what works in the real world,
not just what they learnt on that MBA. Every assignment has
the active involvement of either of TOSCA's founder directors.
We don't take on work if we are unable to offer this as it is
fundamental to our proposition. We work closely within the client's
organisation. We don't go away, work the answers out and then
hit you with lengthy PowerPoint presentations or heavy reports.
We work with you to develop and evaluate the alternatives. This
also means we are able to transfer some skills, methodologies,
tools and techniques, thus giving you the added bonus of building
the organisation's capabilities.
What do you know about my business sector?
Not as much as you do! We don't specialise in specific industries
or market sectors, but we do specialise in helping you to think
through all the angles, challenging your assumptions, stimulated
by objective research and rigorous analysis. This means we can
help you to think beyond the traditional confines of your sector
and we won't bring you pat solutions and preconceived ideas.
We have worked with clients from a very wide range of industries
and market sectors including consumer goods, government, support
services, energy, so we have a wide range of knowledge and experience
to draw upon.
What is the average project cost and do I know I will get a return on this?
All our assignments have a clearly defined set of deliverables.
They are tailored to the clients needs so we can't quote a price
until we have established what those are. The return on investment
is top line and /or bottom line growth, based on a sound, clearly
articulated strategy, explicit plans to implement it and a workforce
commited to doing so, with everyone clear on what they have
to deliver. Ask yourself how much is that worth to your organisation?
Do all assigments involve working from developing the strategy right through to implementaion?
Not necessarily. Whilst we see strategy and implementation
as a continuum we are often asked to work on a specific issue,
which may fall within any one of the three stages of strategy
development, alignment and implementation. We have undertaken
projects entirely in the alignment area, such as getting buy-in
to a quality programme across the various operating divisions
of a company; or in the implementation area, such as undertaking
analysis and mapping of new business processes and defining
and implementing new processes, or to help resolve a specific
strategic issue - such as helping a group of merging companies
figure out a unifying customer proposition. See our case studies
for more examples.
